YouSeeU can be added as an external tool in Canvas to allow students to access and complete assignments in YouSeeU. Follow these simple instructions:
To begin, navigate to your assignments in canvas by clicking Assignments in the left pane. Click to add an assignment.
Name your assignment and fill in any instructions and points as needed.
Select External Tool as your Submission Type, and click in the External Tool URL box to access available external tools.
Continue to set up your activity by filling out the Assign To, Due, and Available dates, and click save. (The same dates will need to be entered in the YouSeeU assignment setup.)
YouSeeU will launch, and you will be prompted with the following Class Creation options:
New Class: if you have never used YouSeeU in any of your courses, select this option.
Copy from my Class: if you have used YouSeeU before and would like to use a class previously used in YouSeeU, select this option. You will be given a list of your YouSeeU classes. Select the appropriate class, modify the dates, and the class will be activated.
Copy from Template: if your institution has templates created for YouSeeU courses, you can select this option and select the appropriate template, modify the dates and the class will be activated.
If you’re not creating a class from a previous class or template and opting to create new, you are now ready to build out your YouSeeU activity by clicking Create Activity. If you don’t want your YouSeeU activity to be deeplinked (opened directly from Canvas) or you don’t want grade sync, then make sure to Turn Off Deeplinks. This will allow students to select the YouSeeU activity to complete from a list of activities as opposed to taking the student directly to the submission page for the Canvas assignment.
Begin creating your YouSeeU activity by naming the activity, selecting the activity type (click the Video Submission button to expand the video activity options).
Please note: depending on your video activity selection, additional fields may be required.
If students are expected to add slides to their video, be sure to activate the slide option or if only audio is required (NO VIDEO), allow the audio recorder only.
Enter your participants (those expected to complete the activity). Enter the text instructions. You can either copy and paste or refer to Canvas. We encourage instructors to record a video to explain the instructions or this video can be a required video for students to watch prior to submitting their assignment.
You determine who can view the students' videos and if commenting is allowed.
Select your grade and feedback options:
Educator Ratings: each star will count as 20%. So 1 star = 20%, 2 stars =40%, etc.
Grade Entry: enter a percentage grade. The value you enter represents a percentage that is used to assign points in the Canvas gradebook based on the maximum points entered for the Canvas assignment.
Pass/Fail:these options will deliver a 100% or a 0% to your Canvas gradebook.
Completed/Not Completed: these options will deliver a 100% or a 0% to your Canvas gradebook.
Rubric: the percentage scored using the rubric will be delivered as a percentage. So 22/25 will deliver a 88% to your Canvas gradebook.
Always allow for Instructor Video and Text Feedback. Select Peer Review and Self Review for more feedback options.
Commentary feedback is a blanket feedback available to students after they submit.
Enable LMS Sync to allow for the grade sync/deep link in YouSeeU. Selecting this option allows for both the grade sync and deep link feature. Select the grade type as selected in the grade setting to be carried back to the Canvas gradebook. The LMS Sync Identifier should automatically be entered. This is the name of your Canvas assignment. It is essential that you DO NOT modify the sync identifier unless you modify the Canvas assignment name. They have to be identical for the grade sync/deep link feature to work.
Only select the Deep Link Only option if grade sync is NOT being used but you still want students to be taken directly to the assignment submission page as opposed to a list of activities in YouSeeU.
Enter your start date (when students can access the activity in YouSeeU), the due date and the end date (the last day the students can submit. Allows for institution late policy).
MAKE SURE YOU ACTIVATE THE ACTIVITY TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS!
A Canvas assignment link will need to be created for each YouSeeU activity you want to create. YouSeeU requires students to click the Canvas assignment link to access the activity to allow grade sync. You can add the Canvas/YouSeeU assignments to modules as well.
If you need to edit your assignments, access the YouSeeU menu at the top of the interface to navigate to the edit page for the activity or access the Activities list to access all activities. You can manage groups on the Activities page list, too.
