PLEASE NOTE: The Flash version of the Virtual Classroom/Sync Activity may not be available at your institution and will be depreciated at all institutions by the end of the year.
The stenographer role allows for a user with moderator rights in an instructor driven Virtual Classroom session to provide real time captioning for participants.
In order for a student to take the stenographer role, add the stenographer to your class with instructor rights and direct them to open the meeting from the Virtual Classroom Navbar link.
The following steps will enable the person identified as the stenographer to begin captioning in real time:
Select the Closed Caption layout in the bottom right corner of the screen to reveal the captioning resource.
Next, click on the language indicator. The system recognizes the default language of your institution. There are also optional drop down menus to change the font, size and color of the text. Any changes made here are only seen by the user that makes the changes.
To reveal the caption text, click on the highlighted tab for the language.
Click on the Take Ownership button to activate real time input of captions.
Type the captions in the Closed Captions window.
